Pete Townshend Responds to Child Abuse Advocates

In advance of the Who’s Super Bowl halftime performance this Sunday in Miami, Pete Townshend has answered a local group of advocates that handed out flyers and postcards that suggested the legendary rock guitarist was a threat to area children. Townshend, who was cleared after being arrested in the during a 2003 child pornography sting, spoke about the matter Thursday in an NFL news conference before his band performed three of its classic songs for the media.

“I’ve been really saddened by it, and concerned about it. It’s an issue that’s very difficult to deal with in sound bites,” Townshend told the Associated Press. “I kind of feel like we’re all on the same side, I guess that’s all I can really say.”

Townshend has long maintained that he accessed a website with child pornography but said it was for research for his own campaign against child porn. Despite being cleared, Townshend — who alluded to his own abuse as a child and says he has been a children’s advocate for many years — was required to register as a sex offender.

“For a family that has suffered the issue of childhood abuse or anything of that sort, vigilance, common sense vigilance is the most important thing, not vigilantism,” Townshend explained. “Anybody that has any doubts about whether I should be here or not should investigate a little bit further.”

Despite the serious tone of the press conference, the mood turned celebratory when bandmate Roger Daltrey announced he was rooting for the New Orleans Saints. Townshend responded with “Then I guess I’ll go for the Colts.” Then, as a warm-up to Sunday’s set, the Who played ‘Behind Blue Eyes,’ ‘Pinball Wizard’ and ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again.’

Void LP player

The record player uses a carrier and dock outfitted with a magnetic and auto-calibrating control
system which carries the LP into thin air as it is playing music. a self-running record player shaped
in the form of a red sphere, contains a needle, amplifier and speaker, spins around the record,
bringing the music to life. the sphere that plays the vinyl was technically influenced by the ‘vinyl killer’,
currently the world’s smallest LP player that has a built-in motor, amplifier and speaker.

Simple colors and shapes express a kind of astronomical movement between the object and space.
The levitation is managed electronically. once turning the player on, you can manage the elevation
levels through the touch sensors on the front side of the base unit.

Neil Young

June 10, 2009 Music No Comments

That Neil Young’s been working on his career retrospective for 23 years says something about the songwriter’s longevity. But it raises a question: Can anything be worth that long a wait?

We say: Sort of. Neil Young Archives Volume 1 (1963–1972), which came out this week as a boxed set of ten (10!) DVDs, is absurdly lavish. The tracks date back to Young’s earliest recordings, with a Winnipeg folk-rock band called the Squires; they include two excellent (but previously released) concert performances and dozens of previously unreleased recordings. You’ll also find Young’s quasi-watchable film Journey Through the Past as well as interviews, lyric sheets, demos, and other ephemera. There’s plenty to explore here, and thanks to Young’s gearhead tendencies — which explain his insistence on audio DVDs rather than CDs — the sound quality is pristine. (You can also get an eight-CD version of the set, but it all but comes with a warning sticker from the man in charge.) That said, Archives is expensive — $200, with the Amazon discount — so its appeal is directly proportional to your degree of obsessiveness. For most of us, the $70 set of CDs will suffice.

Fuck you Very Much

“Look inside, look inside your tiny mind
and look a bit harder
cause we’re so uninspired
so sick and tired
of all the hatred you harbor

so you say it’s not okay to be gay
well I think you’re just evil
you’re just some racist who can’t tie my laces
you’re point of view is medieval

Fuck you, fuck you very very much
cause we hate what you do
and we hate your whole crew
so please don’t stay in touch

fuck you, fuck you very very much
cause your words don’t translate
and it’s getting quite late
so please don’t stay in touch

do you get, do you get a little kick out of being small-minded?
you want to be like your father
it’s approval you’re after
well that’s not how you’ll find it

do you, do you really enjoy living a life that’s so hateful
cause there’s a hole where your soul should be
you’re losing control of it
and it’s really distasteful

Fuck you, fuck you very very much
cause we hate what you do
and we hate your whole crew
so please don’t stay in touch

Fuck you, fuck you very very much
cause your words don’t translate
and it’s getting quite late
so please don’t stay in touch

Look inside, look inside your tiny mind
and look a bit harder
cause we’re so uninspired
so sick and tired
of all the hatred you harbor

Fuck you, fuck you very very much
cause we hate what you do
and we hate your whole crew
so please don’t stay in touch

Fuck you, fuck you very very much
cause your words don’t translate
and it’s getting quite late
so please don’t stay in touch”

Behind Liz Cheney’s group, a weird legacy of torture

February 9, 2010

The arrest of an Army sergeant (and Iraq veteran) who allegedly waterboarded his 4-year-old daughter for failing to recite the alphabet is sickening. Yet it may be the kind of news we must come to expect if, as a society, the United States determines that torture is an acceptable method of securing information and inducing [...]

Assure child abuse registry is fair

February 9, 2010

Last week, Greg Geist drove from his home in Carroll to the State Capitol to attend a subcommittee hearing. Lawmakers were discussing an issue that has affected him and thousands of other Iowans: the rights of those on the state’s child abuse registry.
Legislation being considered would require the state to respond to appeals within a [...]

Online campaign raises child abuse awareness with cartoons

February 9, 2010

It’s a sad fact that children as young as five years old are targeted by abusers online. So, it makes sense to raise awareness of online safety by sending a message straight to them, in a way they can understand, rather than preaching to their parents.
Now, several online safety awareness cartoons are being launched on [...]
